Fun With the Mullin’s

I spent the AM on the water with Joh Mullin, his daughter, and her boyfriend. The weather was cool, with a rainy forecast, but the Mullin’s wanted to get on the water before spring break was over.

We trolled live bait looking for some spring stripers. Chad got things started with a SMB, and short while later a nice LMB. Megan had a fish on next, but it came unbuttoned before we got it to the boat.

While fishing we were treated to some incredible close range bald eagle fly-bys…super cool. After some eagle worship, John was next, and he landed a real nice LMB. We worked our way back to the launch and took a brief break.

After the break, Chad was on AGAIN! This time Chad was on the striper they had been looking for! Congrats Chad!!! We fished into light rain for another hour before calling it a day.

Big Changes at GWKC

Well after almost 5 years of doing micro-retail those days are over. Were not going away, not even close. We are however, moving in a bold new direction.

While our retail operation always made money, in the end it wasn’t what made GWKC great. Our hallmark events, tournaments, rigging expertise, and kayak fishing knowledge is where had an advantage over big guys. However, they had a LOT more room and stock than we did.

So we have decided to focus on what we do best, while helping the big stores serve you better. We will focus on guided fishing, events, and classes. Meanwhile through our new relationship with Ocean Kayak we will help retailers in the area serve the needs of kayak fisherman better.

Speaking of new relationships, we have also been asked to join Jim Sammons’ new enterprise East Cape Kayak Fishing as affiliates. We will be running a few guided trips to Rancho Leonero, while Jim continues to serve Punta Colorado. We love the Ranch and Jim is a great friend…how could we say no???

So 2008 is a year of change, and I for one am ready. Hope you can join us in the fun.
